My Goodness, The Nerve

Earlier this month one of the volunteers from BaasGalgo saw this and asked if they could post one of the photos to the BaasGalgo Facebook page.  They added a clever caption, and so far, the photo has been shared over 12,000 times!

One of my coworkers helped with the translation.  The caption within the photo reads:

"You say someone has eaten the toilet paper?"

"My goodness, the nerve."

And the comment with the photo reads:  "Waku didn't do it, he's a saint."  :)

Waku was the name the BaasGalgo volunteers gave Oscar after he was found.  So nice to know that he's made so many people laugh with his little paper escapade!

Spratt's Greyhound Cakes

Timeless Tuesday 2014-06-24

For thus week's Timeless Tuesday, a (partial) history lesson in dog food, thanks to Dr. Rachel Addleman:

"In 1860, James Spratt, an electrician and lightning rod salesman from Ohio, was the first to manufacture a dried dog biscuit food. While living in England, Spratt observed street dogs eating ship hardtack, the non-perishable food made from processed cereals. The idea for commercial dog food was born.

Spratt called his biscuit the “Patented Meat Fibrine Dog Cake”. His company began operations in America in the 1870s. Spratt appears to have been the first commercial producer of cat food, too."

Scenes from a Sunday

Today is overcast, which is our excuse to stay indoors and relax. The older boys are taking that task very seriously.

Being the youngster that he is, Oscar wants no part of a nap. Instead, he's been watching all of the action under the bird feeder.

Almost too much for the little guy to bear... birds, a squirrel, and his archenemies, the chipmunks!

And after some barking that must have been heard all over the world, Oscar's enemies scatter in all directions, but they'll be back soon.

Until the next time!

A Quilt for Oscar

Oscar received a special package in the mail from his grandma (my mom).

A beautiful quilt of his very own!

The inscription reads "For Oscar, From Grandma, February 2014."  February was Oscar's adoption month.

The quilt was made by my mother, who is an artisan with cloth and thread.  What a wonderful gift!

One Year Gone

It was exactly one year ago today that we said goodbye to Jackson. I really thought that after a year I would miss him less, but that's just not the case. I had written paragraphs for this post, but I'll keep it simple. Jax, I think of you every single day. I miss your constant companionship, your bunny soft fur, and your bubblegum chin. I love you here, from afar, and always.

Timeless Tuesday 2014-04-01

Welcome to "Timeless Tuesday."  We love vintage Sighthound images, so it's my goal to share one or more images each week.  Here are today's images!

Oscar's Journey in Photos

Oscar's journey started where he was found, in Linares, Jaen, Spain.

From Linares, he was taken to the BaasGalgo shelter, in Madrid.  At BaasGalgo, Oscar was known as Waku.

Then on to a foster home, where he had a warm bath.

His foster family loved him very much.  ♥

Preparing to travel from Madrid to New York!

Saying goodbye to his caretakers.

Oscar's Passport.

Arriving safely at JFK (New York).

With volunteers with The Sighthound Underground (SHUG), preparing to travel to Washington, DC.

Oscar spent a week in DC, along with his travel buddy Alatriste.

Then it was time to travel to my house!  From our ride home together.

First evening at home.

The next day, with his new best buddy, Jimmy Chew.

Playing with Jimmy and Harvey.

Post-snow nap.  :)

Jimmy showing Oscar the ropes.

And the journey is complete.  Thank you to all of Oscar's sponsors, caretakers, and especially to the folks at BaasGalgo and SHUG.  ♥
